Sustainable Energy Agriculture & Environmental Practices
An Initiative of TAIFA LA FURSA
At Taifa La Fursa, in collaboration with various industry players locally and international, we are committed to promoting and supporting sustainable energy agriculture and environmental practices. Our initiatives primarily target schools, colleges, universities, and various community youth environmental champion groups, encouraging them to actively engage in sustainable energy agriculture and environmental practices. This includes the planting of fruit and energy trees, participation in community green and clean energy projects, and the cultivation of tree-form fruit and energy cash crops to harness carbon credits. By fostering these activities, we aim to empower the next generation to lead in environmental stewardship and contribute to a greener, more sustainable future.
Taifa La Fursa will promote Tree-Form Energy Cash Crop Varieties such as yellow oleander, croton, castor and oyster nut, helping students and youth recognize their economic benefits early on. These energy tree cash crops are intended to generate biofuel, providing immediate and sustainable monetary value to schools and local communities.
SAWA FARM Food Security Programs
An Initiative of TAIFA LA FURSA
SAWA FARM PRODUCTS LIMITED an initiative of TAIFA LA FURSA, believes that food and prosperity are inseparable in peoples’ lives. We have, in place, Food Security Programs focusing mainly on initiatives that increases and improves the wealth of farmers while improving the nutritional uptake of the ordinary population. SAWA FARM aims at providing a catalyst financial and technical support to boost production output as well as creating systems that assist the farmers in accessing markets. The objective for Kenya going forward is to ensure food security for its population that is increasing and becoming more urbanized as well feeding the world through its markets. It is therefore the goal of SAWA FARM, under the agricultural segment, to boost diversified agriculture production in the Kenyan communities benefitting from our projects. These programs will also help in creation of wealth and jobs in the rural areas.
Our Food security programs focus mainly on agricultural initiatives that are aimed at transforming communities within Kenya to self-sustainable agricultural practices. Our programs intend to create enabling environment that allows for rapid prototyping of new farming innovations, supported by rigorous evaluation that allows for rapid termination of those innovations or practices that fail to deliver significant benefits to participating communities. Our program offer free farm input to selected groups of community farmers with over ten (10) acres and above (individually or consolidated), farmed jointly with ready market for the produce or output. We further create systems that allow such groups to process such produce (where applicable) and support the full farming value chain systems.
- 1. We give more emphasis to farming as a profitable business venture, and raise the profile of the farming profession by encouraging young graduates (whether jobless or employed) to venture into farming operations (crop or animal);
- 2. Promote mechanization and irrigation technologies in agriculture to upgrade Kenya’s vision. Particular focus is on small farms in poor communities where strategic farming clubs would be structured to maximize Kenya’s productive units and have the greatest development potential;
- 3. Affirm Kenya’s farming interests in international negotiations and international markets for processed farm products.
- 4. Promote value addition and local processing of agriculture produce to maximize farmers’ gains while creating other branches of employment along the chain.
- 5. Promote systematic preference for sustainable agricultural systems from a socio-economic perspective (use of labour) and also from an environmental perspective (limited use of high-carbon inputs, the promotion of agro ecology and agroforestry).
- 1. Increasing Agricultural Production through Sustainable Agricultural Intensification. By fostering access to inputs- including the use of ”smart” subsidy policies, encouraging the adoption of innovations and securing access to resources for women and youth (encouraging farming through groups). Support will be offered as a matter of priority to families that pool land in groups of ten (10) acres and above who will make optimal use of land and labor.
- 2. Improving the Structure and Functioning of Markets through eliminating market challenges. Initiating convenient transportation mechanisms of produce as well as enabling easy access to useful market information. Integrating global markets on a gradual approach based on an “infant industry” strategy for Kenya’s agricultural sector. It will also entail being better organized collectively to ensure that Kenya’s interests are defended in international negotiations to improve access to developed and emerging countries. Furthermore, it involves improving the Kenyan food security strategy so that it becomes a food sovereignty and regional preference strategy. This means more flexibility in regional tariff policy, concentrating research efforts on local products, regulations on the use and protection of genetic resources on the one hand and the defense of the interests of agricultural producers on the other.
- 3. Promoting Investment assumes improved income forecasting and, therefore, adopting specific actions to reduce risks, as well as better access to agricultural financial services. Public investment remains a must and for this reason SAWA FARM is going to undertake a negotiating role in ensuring that respective governments play their part to supplement our programs where we invest in the communities.
- 4. Fostering access to food and good nutrition which will result into better living conditions among producers. This will further promote a healthy production population translating into transformed communities.
- 5. The management of environment will be key to protecting national, continental and global interests. It entails prioritizing land tenure systems that encourage value-addition on the environment. The relevance of methods of natural resource use must be ensured by peer assessment in the local communities.
